Twelve students from Sheboygan County Christian High School have decided to spend their first Discovery Term serving in Atlanta, GA. The team, led by Chris and Kim Hendrikse, will be working with a ministry known as 7 Bridges to Recovery / A Rescue Team For Jesus. In addition to spending time with the women and children that live onsite, the team will be packing several hundred lunches and heading out onto the city streets to deliver food and the gospel to those in need.

Friday, January 2: The Journey to Atlanta!

Greetings to family and friends from Atlanta!! It was a looooong ride down here but we all survived each other. Leaving at 2:20 AM is not very easy to get used to but we all caught up on some sleep on the van. We travelled in a 15-passenger van with 14 people. I was the lucky one who got to share a four-seater bench with three people J. After leaving Oostburg, our next stop was in Indianapolis or (Philadelphia according to Alycia) for a breakfast at McDonalds. After a quick stop for some super cheap gas, ($1.81 per gallon!!) we continued on to Bowling Green, Kentucky for a classic lunch at Chick-fil-a!! I love that place. Finally we travelled the rest of the way to Atlanta and ate dinner at a Pizza Hut. After a quick stop at Walmart to pick up some mattresses, ponchos and snacks, we arrived at our final destination. We were greeted and given a tour of the Garden (the name of the church) by a man named Bill. He has been a volunteer at the 7 Bridges ministry for a while now and was also here the last time I was here. After this we set up our things and went and took showers. After that we all got together and had a devotional on surrender. It was good to hear what everyone had to say and to be able to learn off each other. I am very excited also to see how all of my classmates will react to this mission we are about to go on and excited to see how God is going to work through our group. The presence of God in this place is strong and just waiting to overflow to those around!

Michael Alsum

After getting the chance to come to 7 Bridges during the summer, I am so excited to have another opportunity to get out into the community of Atlanta to bless people. One thing that I am mostly looking forward to is how we are about to go out and witness to people and pray with them, Atbut looking back at the last time I was here, many of the times I was blessed by the people that we talked to. As Michael said before, “The presence of God in this place is strong” and talking as a group last night we all were able to acknowledge that this is a place that God is using to reach out to the community to be a light in this dark world and to bring others to him. I am very excited to see what God has in store for us this week!
